As a 'wanderer' - (intended for English guests)
Since 1989 my wife and I wander through Europe together. Ever since our daughter Esther was old enough to go on holiday independently.
In the beginning we travelled using a Toyota Lite Ace and from 1998 a MAZDA E2200E-diesel. I fitted these vans with a camper-style interior; a "bed on wheels" sufficed for us.
Past and present: we cook and live outside - in bad weather under the awning. Maybe a bit primitive, but very efficient. Our sides and rear protected from rain and sun.
Our first new MAZDA E2200E was totalled in 2004 during a holiday, thanks to an Italian lady. It was not easy to buy a similar van. We finally succeeded in Apeldoorn: a secondhand van with blue stripes from a Mazda dealer became our new "home". Motorhome in Leiderdorp transferred our old interior into the new van.
This MAZDA E2200E, built in 1997, offers us all the freedom we want.

Preferably on grass so you can easily hit the pegs into the ground.
But with rock tent stakes and a sledgehammer we can also take care of ourselves on hard surfaces.

Here, along a mountain flank, with ever changing wind and some of the pegs in loose slate, we had trouble keeping our rear awning up.
